How to change display name in gtalk ?

I have seen a lot of answers for this question. All didn't resolve my issue.

I will tell u with an example

My gmail id is ';xyz@gmail.com'; my frnd can see me in her chat window as ';xyz';. I dont want it. I want to see me in all of my friends chat windows as ';shankar'; Google not giving a better answer for this..... I tried all almost all options...I can see the changed display name only n my chat window...my friends still see me as ';xyz';. whats going wrong here !!How to change display name in gtalk ?
--- why not just start from scratch and make a new google account. You could even forward the mail from your current account to the new one.How to change display name in gtalk ?
