It's because you are switching from 16 colors to 156 colors which are different color pallets. 256 is the lowest of the VGA pallets so you should try setting it to 1024x768@32bit

How to change the display color setting?
I am using windows 7. I need 1024x768 resolution. When I set it to 1024x768 with 256 color , the color on the screen is blurr. But when I set to 640x480 resolution with 16 color, the color is good. PLease give me some instructions. ThanksHow to change the display color setting?
